PHOENIX – Wil Cardon, Arizona’s millionaire self-funding Senate candidate purports to have created hundreds of jobs. Perhaps he’s being modest in not counting the 5,398 fans that he has on Facebook.
Love it or hate it, Facebook recently changed its look. One the changes in the new Timeline feature allows people to view the “page insights.” Wil Cardon’s Facebook page insights reveal something interesting: the city where most of his page fans reside.
For Jeff Flake it’s Phoenix. Richard Carmona it’s Tucson. And for Wil Cardon it’s Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Dhaka, Bangladesh? That’s weird.
See for yourself: https://www.facebook.com/wilcardonforussenate/likes
With a quick search on Google, it’s easy to find websites like “buylikes.com” and “buyfacebooklikesfans.com” that promise to increase friends, fans and likes, all for a fee. Of course, it may be impossible to know for certain if this is what Wil Cardon has done.
“Money can’t buy love but it can buy you likes,” said Andrew Wilder, Communications Director for the Flake campaign. “Perhaps his campaign simply resonates more in Dhaka than with the voters of Arizona.”
A screenshot of Cardon’s page, taken April 26, 2012, is attached.

BEN QUAYLE - Cyber Security: Protecting America from Foreign Enemies
Over the past two decades we have experienced the benefits of a dramatically more interconnected world. Vast amounts of information are now at our fingertips, and easier to find, share and move than ever before.
This digital age has brought with it a boom in productivity and innovation. Unfortunately, it has also created new threats. Foreign nation-states, and any number of sinister organizations, are able to threaten our country, without risking a military engagement by targeting vital security and cyber infrastructure. American intellectual property of all kinds is regularly pirated and misused, not by corporate espionage agents physically infiltrating a company, but by anonymous hackers thousands of miles away. Congress considered legislation yesterday to counter this growing threat.
CISPA, as the legislation is known, provides vital security and privacy protections against foreign cyber attacks, which are coming every day from nations like China, Russia and Iran. Without CISPA, private companies targeted by these attacks are not allowed to voluntarily share information about these security breaches with federal agencies charged with defending America's national security. This is absurd, and it puts Americans in danger.
The nature of the attacks our enemies use is constantly changing. It is up to us to adapt and face down these threats however they evolve. Certainly, we must be careful to protect the privacy of individuals as we move forward. To that end, I introduced an amendment to the legislation to further strengthen privacy provisions in the bill. I'm proud to report that this amendment passed with nearly unanimous support in the House -- 410 to 3.

Bill Montgomery Endorses Jeff Flake for Senate
"Flake understands the
consequences of federal inaction and what law enforcement needs to do to deal to
with it."
PHOENIX
– Jeff
Flake, a conservative candidate for the United States Senate, today announced
the endorsement of Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery.
"Maricopa County, like other counties, is
paying a high price for the federal government’s failure to secure the border
and to stem the flow of violent crime and illegal drugs into this country,"
said Montgomery. "Jeff Flake understands the consequences of
federal inaction and what law enforcement needs to do to deal to with it. I support Jeff Flake for U.S. Senate because
he will fight to hold the federal government accountable for its
responsibilities and see that law enforcement in Maricopa County -- and across
Arizona -- has the tools it needs to protect its
residents."
"Bill Montgomery is a stalwart against the
many challenges we face and is highly respected in our community as a
result," said Flake. "I am honored to receive his endorsement and
will value his counsel in holding the federal Government to account for the
safety of Arizona’s citizens."

McCain courts Bloomberg for Mitt - By MAGGIE HABERMAN - Politico.com
Sen. John McCain, a relatively early Mitt Romney backer, visited New York's City Hall yesterday to try to convince Mike Bloomberg to get behind the Republican, the NY Post reports:
“I just came in to pay my respects to the mayor. He and I are old friends from many years back,” McCain told The Post as he left City Hall. “I told him that I just spent last weekend with Romney and I thought that Romney was on message . . . and tried to convince the mayor that we’ve got a winning campaign.”
McCain and Bloomberg have been friends for years - the Arizona senator endorsed the mayor in his initial 2001 race - and in 2008, the mayor was considered by the then-GOP nominee as a potential ticketmate. Bloomberg, having decided against a run himself, could end up making his voice heard with an endorsement, and he's made clear privately to many people he doesn't think highly of the job President Obama has done. But it seems unlikely, if he decides to weigh in, that it will happen anytime sono.

Bishops call for 'aggressive attack' on Obama policies by Martin Gould
Roman Catholic leaders are calling for two weeks of public protests against President Barack Obama's policies as they intensify their argument that the administration is engaged in a war on religion.
Two weeks of protests, from July 21 to July 4 have been called by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops which has sought to end the administrations's contraception mandate, among other policies.
The two weeks of planned protests against the Obama administration’s policies could be “the game-changer” in the presidential election, a leading lay churchman said. ... The protests, dubbed “A Fortnight for Freedom” will be an “unprecedented, aggressive attack” against policies that church leaders see as an assault on religious freedom, said Catholic Advocate chairman Deal Hudson.

Poor RUSSELL PEARCE! No Place At The Table For YOU!
A Great Article By Howard Fischer - Capitol Media Services
The U.S. Supreme Court could end of taking up the legality of Arizona’s SB 1070 immigration law on Wednesday without its author in the audience.
Mesa’s Russell Pearce told Capitol Media Services he had asked Joe Sciarrotta, chief legal counsel to Gov. Jan Brewer, if she would give him one of the seats she has been allocated by virtue of her status as the petitioner in the case. The request has precedent: Pearce got to sit with the governor in 2010 when the high court reviewed Arizona’s employer sanctions law.
But this time his request was rebuffed.
“A handful of seats have been allotted for the governor’s attendees, including her legal team and senior staff members,” said Brewer press aide Matthew Benson.
Benson won’t say how many seats. Nor would he disclose a full list of who Brewer wants near her during the hour-long argument besides aide Kim Sabow, Sciarrotta — and Benson himself.
Anyway, Benson scoffed at the idea that Pearce, a former state senate president, needs to be there.
“And the case falls apart without him, right?” he asked.

Statement by Governor Brewer
U.S. Supreme Court Hears SB 1070 Arguments
PHOENIX – "Today, more than two years after I signed SB 1070 into law, the State of Arizona had its opportunity to defend this measure before the United States Supreme Court. Many people never gave us a chance to get this far, and it is only due to the continuing support and encouragement of the American people that it was possible.
"Of course, we likely will not know the Court's decision for weeks. But I am filled with optimism – the kind that comes with knowing that Arizona's cause is just and its course is true.

"Of course, we likely will not know the Court's decision for weeks. But I am filled with optimism – the kind that comes with knowing that Arizona's cause is just and its course is true.
"On the day I signed SB 1070, I called it ‘another tool for our state to use as we work to solve a crisis we did not create and the federal government has refused to fix.’ Those words still hold true – as I was reminded last week when I returned to the border to visit law enforcement and ranchers who live and work in southeastern Arizona.
”Their message: The job of securing the border is not done, not so long as drugs and humans continue to be smuggled north in large numbers at the direction of violent cartels and armed gangs. As Governor, I have a duty to uphold the Constitution and a responsibility to protect the people of Arizona. With SB 1070, I am confident we can do both.”

Wil Cardon Fact Check: "I Don’t Believe In Self-Funding Candidates"
Cardon Fact Check: "I Don’t Believe In Self-Funding Candidates"
CLICK HERE TO WATCH THE VIDEO!
PHOENIX -- A new fact check released today by the Flake campaign examines whether millionaire Senate candidate Wil Cardon is honest in claiming that he won’t self-finance his campaign in the race to replace retiring U.S. Senator Jon Kyl. This is the second in a series that will examine factually inaccurate statements and claims made by Cardon and his campaign.
The Claim
Speaking to voters at a campaign event on October 29, 2011, Wil Cardon denied any intention of trying to buy the Senate seat by self-financing his race:
"I’ve heard people also say, well, he’s a wealthy guy, he can fund his own campaign. I’m not that guy. I don’t believe in self-funding candidates. I believe that the only way you get it done is to have people actually buy into your candidacy, and the way they buy into your candidacy is that it can be ten cents or it can be $2,500 - the maximum. But once they invest in you and say listen, I’m going to give some of my, voluntarily, give you some of my hard-earned dollars, I think then you have a chance at winning something, and if you can’t do that you’re just trying to buy an election or do something like that, and that’s not my opinion the right way to get things done either."
His remarks can be heard here: http://youtu.be/fK0cd3Bk4jA
The Facts
To date, Wil Cardon has poured at least $4.2 million of his family inheritance into his campaign for the United States Senate, with much more likely to come. Actual contributions have trailed off dramatically since his first reporting quarter and now stand at an overall total of $706,000 to date. Cardon’s campaign relies almost entirely on his personal loans, as the actual contributions raised barely began to cover the cost of statewide airtime he has already purchased for his campaign ads.
The personal cash that Wil Cardon has funneled into the race is at the center of a Federal Election Commission complaint filed against him in January. The complaint suggests that some of the money Cardon loaned his campaign may have derived from corporate sources, which is illegal. The Arizona Republic wrote on the complaint at the time: http://www.azcentral.com/community/mesa/articles/2012/01/20/20120120wil-cardon-accused-fec-violation.html
Conclusion
Wil Cardon is not being honest when he claims that he’s not a self-funding candidate. He’s simply telling voters one thing and then doing another. Spending $4.2 million of his family’s wealth to date -- while struggling to attract buy-in support from voters -- makes it clear that Wil is attempting to buy this election.
He said it himself, if you can’t raise the money you need to run, and need to self-finance, "you’re just trying to buy an election…and that’s not in my opinion the right way to get things done."
We agree, Wil.
