Finally, Russell Pearce's Next Political Move Revealed

Alternate Title: What the hell is Russell Pearce up to?

A contact sent over a copy of this last night.  Apparently this was sent out to a selected group of State Committeemen (presumably the "True Patriots") a few days ago.  I tried to write about it last night, but couldn't stop laughing, so it took me until today to get to it:

TO ALL STATE COMMITTEEMEN and other interested patriots:
This slate of candidates has been developed by a cross-section of the organizations and leadership team that was instrumental in electing Chairman Morrissey in January. We believe that it is important that we elect officers that have supported and will continue to support the Republican Party Platform and Chairman Morrissey through the remainder of this election cycle and ask your support and your vote for this slate.

Party Platform Slate
First Vice Chair -- Russell Pearce - Maricopa County
Second Vice Chair -- Parralee Schneider - Pima County
Third Vice Chair -- J. Duane Rhodes - Graham County
Asst. Secretary -- Debbie Miller - Maricopa County
Asst. Treasurer -- Andy Stevens - Maricopa County
Sergeant-At-Arms -- Alberto Gutier - Maricopa County
Asst. Sgt-At-Arms -- Chris Campbell - Maricopa County
Thank you for your tireless efforts to return America to the shining light on the hill.
From State Senate President to Tom Morrissey's assistant in charge of rearranging the chairs on the deck of the Titanic?  That's a rapid fall from grace if ever there was one.

As anyone who follows these things should know by now, Tom Morrissey's issues at the helm of the AZ GOP are not caused by a lack of incompetent rubber-stamping sycophants surrounding him.  He already has that a-plenty.  Yet, it seems that some people are of the opinion that all he needs are "officers that have supported and will continue to support the Republican Party Platform and Chairman Morrissey through the remainder of this election cycle."

So why is Russell Pearce signing up to be Tom Morrissey's personal rubber stamp?

To the best of my knowledge, an officer in the Party must resign before running for elected office.  (It is that way in my LD, not sure about the sate level- perhaps one of the Bylaw Freaks can answer this.)

So is Pearce signaling his intent to sit out the next election cycle?  Or is he just a placeholder that will resign on cue, allowing Morrissey to appoint a replacement?  And if so, why?  Or is Russell trying to make a play for State Party Chair?  For what reason? Couldn't he be much more effective running his own PAC instead?

I have to be honest here, I'm not sure how to interpret Russell's move here, because it seems to defy logic.  I'm reasonably certain Pearce didn't wake up one day, look around, and say "you know how I could best serve my state, and my country... Working for Tom Morrissey!"

Or if he did, then that's a sad thought indeed.
