'THE RUMOR MILL' for Thursday February 10, 2011

With today's announcement by Sen. JON KYL that he is not running for a 4th term, the election for his seat in 2012 will be a highly contested, knock-down, drag out fight!  Here's the 'Rumor Mill':

BRETT MECUM TO RESIGN AS AZ GOP EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR?

Multiple sources tell PM that Brett Mecum and Matt Roberts, AZ GOP Spokesman were only paid through January, there was no money to pay them past that. So Brett and Matt have both said if they don't come up with money fast they're going to quit. The only money left is already tied into some renovations of the building. It's looking like Mr.Morrissey is going to have to run the party with volunteers until he can raise some money.

Hopefully Mecum can get his job as a 'Mall Cop' back?

How soon before ROB HANEY is named ED?  Stay Tuned.....

TOP CONSULTANT 86ed BY THE AZ GOP?

Three difference sources tell PM  that Constantine Querard may be in trouble with the state party. During the state convention Querard saw that his person would not win as chairman so he tried to cut a deal with Tom Morrissey.

Morrissey told him no but he would think about making a deal. CQ then went to Ron Carmichael and tried to make a deal with him.

During the CQ and Carmichael meeting,  Morrissey came into the room to tell CQ that he would take his deal. Once Morrissey found out that CQ was making a deal with Ron, Morrissey told CQ he was done helping the State Republican Party.

RUSSELL PEARCE LOOKING FOR HIGHER OFFICE?

Sources tell PM that Sen. Russell Pearce is asking DC money people to help him raise enough money to possibly run for Jeff Flake's seat in Congress.

Also, Eddie Farnworth and Andy Biggs are looking at the Flake seat as is Kirk Adams. If Adams runs he will step down as speaker and Jim Weiers will take over!

LOOKING AT THE 2012 RACE TO REPLACE SEN. JON KYL!

As we posted earlier today, Sen. John Kyl is retiring!  Insiders tell us this was expected;  Kyl told friends weeks ago that he wouldn't run.  Who will replace him in the U.S. Senate?

REP. JEFF FLAKE:  Flake has hired Kyl's fundraiser and has will have the backing of the delegation.  Flake is the 'odds-on-favorite' to win the Republican nomination and win the 2012 General Election!

GRANT WOODS:  He has ZERO chance to win the nomination.  Enough said!

J.D.HAYWORTH:  After getting PUMMLED by Sen. John McCain in 2010, does Hayworth have the 'Cojones' to run again?  His 'worshipers' wish this was true, but he would get crushed again!

SHERIFF PAUL BABEU:   Look for the Sheriff to run for the new "9th AZ Congressional Seat" coming in 2012!

JANET NAPOLITANO:  As we have been saying, looking more like "BIG SIS" is going to run (basically before the Obama Administration FIRES her ass.

This is going to be a very interesting race in 2012!

OVERHEARD IN A  SENATE MEETING.......from one of our readers!

The Senate Government Reform Cmte is conducting the second half of its meeting right now. Our resident  Senator talks too loud near her microphone..........

Right after Kristen Sinema voted "aye" on a Frank Antenori bill that would prevent elected officials from using their position for personal political interests - Senator Lori "DUI" Klein slowly growled to Sen. Ron Gould, "I swear she's running for higher office." Gould said, "Why did she vote no?". Klein said "No! She voted aye!"

Klein didn't say it kindly...........

Let's hope that Klein only keeps shooting off her big mouth, not her guns!
