New Lyrics for an old World War II Patriotic Song
Bell-bottomed trousers,
Coat of Navy-blue;
She loved a sailor
And he loved her too.
Now he’s on a fine ship
Heading off to war;
He loves his country
Like his parents did before.
Too bad that Congress
Doesn’t think the same;
Some don’t like the country
And want to change its name.
They don’t care that brave men
In the air and sea and ground,
Died to keep this nation
Independent, safe, and sound.
In watery graves lie sailors
Who gave us all they had;
But they’d still be first on duty,
If the country needs them bad.
In different colored uniforms,
Whether in firefights or in squall,
In a hotspot or a green-zone,
God bless you one and all.
