Neither our police forces nor our FBI are set up to PREVENT crime. A crime has to happen before law enforcement can step in and do something.
Infrequently we have FBI or police agents infiltrating groups that operate with the intention of committing crimes; however, those instances are few and far between and we certainly cannot count on it.
We applaud these instances fraught with danger. Those agents are indeed heroes more important than any first string quarterback. The smaller the group, though, the less likely anyone can successfully infiltrate.
We also have the Warren v. DC decision that says the police have no commitment to protect the individual--only society at large. If a person decides to murder a number of people without confiding in anyone, the chances of law enforcement to stop it are slim and none.
Our only hope is that the police can act fast enough and intelligently enough to stop the crime before it becomes a carnage. Yesterday shows that despite their best efforts, they can fail.
Perhaps if they had not shown up when they did, the murder would have continued; so possibly they could have saved someone. But no matter how much they investigate themselves and resolve to do better, the fact remains 32 students were murdered--a terrible tragedy.
Any student who stepped out of his room that day only had himself or herself for protection, nobody else. And none were equipped to do so. Self-defense is a taboo subject in a Liberal curriculum and the tools of self-defense are condemned.
We do not live in PERFECT Town and criminals are not that way because of inadequate education and social problems. Some people just cannot be turned around--they are predators. Every day we walk with evil and do not know it because sometimes it has a mask of a friend or neighbor.
It is time to re-think self-defense; we have had enough tragedies. And people like Senator Schumer and his ilk should butt out! They are not part of the solution, only a big part of the problem.

I actually think that there are many self-defense classes available at the school, so I don't see why you say they oppose self-defense.
