Ode To The Taxpayer
by Jean Shiver
T'was April 17th, it dawned dark and gray,
Everywhere people were lined up to pay.
At H & R block all you could hear;
Were clients voices filled with fear.
"I can't possibly owe that much!''
Uncle george said I have a golden touch!"
I've scrimped and I've saved all that I could;
Maybe I gambled a little more than I should.
I really thought I had more donations than that!
By the way, can I deduct doctor bills for the cat?
One by one they all sink to their knees;
They could all be knocked over by a little breeze.
"Our father who art in heaven,
Where were you when I asked for that lucky 7?
Now here I stand on tax judgement day;
And they say that I will have to pay and pay.
Next year will be different, you just wait and see,
All the money will be sent back to me!
I'll give to every charity that I can find;
Then the tax refund will be all mine!
Please if you can, one more loophole try to find!
I know the IRS really wouldn't mind!
Everyone has more money than I do!
It's just a matter of finding out who!
