RE: Inside information about yesterday's White House meeting on financial crisis

This is a blog post from the American Spectator blog pointing out that staff within the Department of Treasury leaked information to Democrat nominee Barack Obama for political advantage.

This financial crisis is too important for partisan games, and John McCain has demonstrated real leadership on this issue. We need to pass a bill with real solutions to this problem through common sense reforms, not just giveaways and political posturing.
Read the insight below.

BREAKING NEWS:

Paulson and Obama - Friday, September 26, 2008 @ 9:49:47 AM

When Sen. Barack Obama was given the floor to speak during White House negotiations, according to White House aides, he did so raising concerns about a House Republican alternative to the Paulson/Bernanke $700 billion bailout. But those concerns weren't necessarily his, as he was not aware of the GOP plan before reviewing notes provided him by Paulson loyalists in Treasury prior to entering the meeting.

According to an Obama campaign source, the notes were passed to Obama via senior aides traveling with him, who had been emailed the document via a current Goldman Sachs employee and Wall Street fundraiser for the Obama campaign.

"It was made clear that the memo was from 'friends' and was
reliable," says the campaign source. The memo allowed Obama and his fellow Democrats to box in Republican attendees and essentially took what President Bush had billed as a negotiating meeting off the rails.

"Paulson and his team have not acted in good faith for this President or the administration for which they serve," says a House Republican leader who was not present at the White House meeting, but who instead is part of the team hammering out the House GOP alternative.

"We keep hearing about how Secretary Paulson is working with
Democrats on this or that, yet he never seems to consider working with the party that essentially hired him. Perhaps he's auditioning for a Democratic administration job. Our proposal didn't just spring forth fully formed; we've been working on this for several days, and Treasury staff has known about it."

East Valley Tribune: Shadegg's grandstand play worth cheering

To: Shadegg Friends

From: Congressman John Shadegg

Today's editorial in the East Valley Tribune highlights my efforts in trying to get Speaker Pelosi to allow a vote on solving America's energy crisis. (see below)

Because of my leadership on this issue and because Speaker Pelosi and the Democratic leadership are feeling the heat, they are continuing to target me in the upcoming election. I need your immediate support. Please click here to contribute today. Your contribution of $250, $100, $50 or even $35 will help me continue our effort to find solutions to reduce gas and energy prices now and in the future.

Tribune Editorial

August 6, 2008

Rep. John Shadegg, R-Ariz., is playing a merry prankster on the floor of the House of Representatives this week to highlight the refusal of the Democratic majority to repeal on a federal ban on off-shore oil drilling. It's a little out of character for the normally straightlaced congressman but perhaps explained by the vigorous election challenge Shadegg faces at home this fall.

As noted in published media accounts and by Shadegg himself in e-mails to his supporters, the congressmen is one of several Republicans who aren't leaving Washington for the August recess but instead are returning to an empty House floor each day to "debate" national energy policy.

Shadegg says the group won't relent until House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., brings everyone back to vote for oil exploration in the Outer Continental Shelf.

On Friday, Pelosi started the five-week recess by ordering the House lights, microphones and cameras shut off.

But Shadegg punched in several computer codes until he figured out how to turn the microphones back on. Then, Pelosi told media in the press gallery to leave. But Shadegg ran upstairs and held forth for the reporters, triggering an obscure rule that allowed the media to ignore Pelosi's directive. It's all grandstanding, of course. But at least Shadegg is showing off, and getting widespread attention, for a cause that lot of Americans now understand would be the right course.

Well played.

THANK YOU JOHN SHADEGG!!!

As a constituent living in Arizona Congressional District 3, I want to personally thank Congressman John Shadegg for his nearly 14 years of service to our community and to the state of Arizona. His leadership in Congress has been a tremendous boost to the state of Arizona. Had Congressman Shadegg been elected the Leader in the US House, Republicans might not be in the situation they are in now.

John Shadegg has protected the tax payers over his career, especially over the 'earmarks' that have been in the national news lately.

Shadegg has always been popular in this district; last time he got over 59% of the vote. And the
liberal blogs have been going crazy today.....sorry guys but the last internal poll done by the Shadegg camp had him up by over 31 points over challenger Bob Lord.

Speaking of Bob Lord, bet he was relieved this afternoon when Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon held a Press Conference and said he would NOT be a candidate for the CD-3 House.

This move by Congressman Shadegg will be shown to be a
brilliant strategic move in the weeks and months to come.

Shadegg's Replacement?

All kinds of rumors and rumblings on who is going to run to replace Congressman Shadegg. Here is the short list of contenders on the GOP side:

1. Sean Noble - Shadegg's longtime Chief-of-Staff. Sean would make a wonderful Congressman. He is not as well known by the general public, but those in politics know Sean well.

2. Jim Waring - State Senator from LD-7. Former John McCain staffer.
Waring has amassed over $160,000 in his campaign chest, so he has a good start on a Congressional run.

3. Jim Weiers - Speaker of the Arizona House of Representatives from LD-10. Weiers has a war chest similar to Waring's. Might be easier for him to win here than in his own LD-10.

4. Ed Winkler - Mayor of Paradise Valley. Basically endorsed by the SA & SRA Blogs (the kiss of death), he will make this an interesting race.
