Wil Cardon’s Running from the Truth

With news that Cardon’s company hired 150+ illegal aliens, Wil walks back claim of hands-on involvement

PHOENIX – The cornerstone of Wil Cardon’s self-funded campaign has been to portray himself as a hands-on businessman who talks tough against illegal immigration and employers that break the law. On the campaign trail, Wil has been quick to take the credit for his businesses, frequently citing his Subway business as a place he’s created jobs and performs what he calls “walk around management.” He even filmed one of his campaign commercials inside a Subway, boasting that he created “restaurant jobs.”

But recent news that his Subway business employed over 150 illegal aliens has sent Wil into spin control mode. Rather than take responsibility for what happened, Wil has begun to revise his involvement in the company that, until recently, he claimed as his own. Now, he claims he’s merely a passive investor in the company.

A new television ad released today by the Flake campaign and airing statewide on broadcast and cable reveals Wil Cardon campaigning earlier this year, talking up his business credentials and “hands-on” management, specifically citing that he’s “opened and started running several dozen Subway stores” in Arizona. It runs contrary to Wil’s current defense. Click the image below or this link to view the ad: http://youtu.be/KnO2HA3-OFc

“One day Wil Cardon’s the hands-on, head of the company, opening and running stores, and exercising his walk-around management,” said Andrew Wilder, communications director for the Flake campaign. “But the moment we learn that his business hired 151 illegal aliens, he acts like he has nothing to do with the company.”

Last week, the Flake campaign aired a commercial contrasting Wil Cardon’s tough campaign talk against employers who break the law with the massive number of illegal aliens at his business, uncovered by the ICE investigation.
