Two AZ Congressmen Getting Headlines for Voting Against Party Leadership

Two Arizona Congressmen are in the news today- both for their votes that went against the will of the party leadership.

The first is David Schweikert (AZ-05), who was one of 26 Republicans who voted against extending some provisions of the PATRIOT Act, causing the vote to fail.

The second is Jeff Flake (AZ-06) who was one of two Republicans to vote against the GOP's anemic budget cut bill in committee, because he didn't feel the cuts were large enough. (They weren't.)

Somehow I can predict that the spin will be that Schweikert's vote proves he's a true conservative, while Flake's somehow proves that he's a RINO. (Once a RINO, always a RINO, if Rob Haney says you are.)

But I say good on both Congressmen for voting their consciences, instead of buckling to party pressure.
