Michael Barone - Lieberman, Harman and vanishing Democratic moderates



Political pundits of a certain stripe have been lamenting the disappearance of Republican moderates for years. It's time now to lament the disappearance of moderate Democrats. Last month Sen. Joseph Lieberman announced he wouldn't seek re-election. He lost the Democratic primary in Connecticut in 2006 because of his support of the Iraq War, but won in November as an independent.






Susan Ferrechio - Republicans move to block health care funding


House Republicans on Tuesday said they will attempt to block funding for President Obama's health care reforms in this year's budget. The move would come next week when the House takes up a bill to fund the federal government through September, the end of the fiscal year, according to House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, R-Va.






Julie Mason - Obama budget promises cuts, more spending


The White House also is previewing a number of areas in the budget where Obama hopes to increase spending. In his recent State of the Union address, Obama noted the need to do more for education and to encourage business innovation in research and technology.






Sara Carter - Documentary targets Iran's nuclear program


Several Congressional lawmakers, activists, political pundits and invited guests attended a special screening of the documentary film Iranium today on Capital Hill. The film chronicles the Tehran regime's quest to obtain nuclear weapons capabilities. The film has drawn harsh criticism from Iran's Foreign Ministry. A spokesman denounced it as an attempt to harm the progress of Iran's nuclear program. Read More

Susan Ferrechio - Obama invites GOP leaders for lunch Wednesday


As a March 4 deadline for funding the government approaches, President Obama plans to talk spending and the economy with the three top GOP House leaders tomorrow, press secretary Robert Gibbs has just announced. Obama will host a lunch at the White House for Speaker John Boehner of Ohio, Majority Leader Eric Cantor of Virginia and Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy of California. Read More






J.P. Freire - Christie: Legislators offer nothing but hot air on pension, civil service reform


New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, R, hit back at the state legislature for not doing anything to reform public pensions and the civil service in a pointed speech on Monday. "They've done nothing on this issue. It is nothing but hot air. And two-page press releases with bullet points. That's not how you fix the big things in New Jersey. It's not the way it gets done."
