A fiscally minded group that successfully backed several upstart candidates for U.S. Senate last year has raised $100,000 for Rep. Jeff Flake's bid in Arizona.
Flake, a Republican known for his passion against wasteful spending, is running for the seat being vacated by Sen. Jon Kyl, the No. 2 GOP leader in the Senate.

The Club for Growth PAC raised that money for Flake in one day, right after endorsing the congressman for the Senate. "This is a huge haul for one day," said Chris Chocola, the club's president.
For the 2010 elections, the organization helped raise $8.4 million for the Senate campaigns of Republicans Pat Toomey, Marco Rubio, Mike Lee, Ron Johnson and Rand Paul -- all of whom won their races and are senators.
