AZ REPUBLICAN CONGRESSIONAL CANDIDATES UPDATE for Tuesday Sept 5, 2010

ARIZONA CONGRESSMAN JEFF FLAKE ENDORSES  BEN QUAYLE FOR CONGRESS

Phoenix, AZ (October 4, 2010) — Ben Quayle, Republican candidate for Arizona’s 3rd Congressional District, today announced that U.S. Congressman Jeff Flake endorsed his candidacy for Congress.

“Ben is a strong advocate for conservative and free-market principles, and I’m confident that he will be the kind of new generation voice we need in Congress today," said Flake. "I am proud to support Ben Quayle’s campaign for Congress.”

Quayle stated he is grateful for Congressman Flake’s support and that he admires the Congressman’s tenacity and unflinching defense of free markets and limited government. “Jeff Flake stands out in Washington as a champion of the free market,” said Quayle. “If we had more like him there, the federal deficit would be smaller and so would the federal government.”

Jeff Flake has represented the 6th Congressional District since 2001. He serves on the Committees of Oversight and Government Reform, Foreign Affairs and Natural Resources. He has established himself as a leading conservative reformer.

Friends — I wanted you to be the first to see that Roll Call just named Ann Kirkpatrick as the ninth most vulnerable Democrat. If we have the financial resources we can win this District back and return fiscal discipline to Congress.

All –After rubberstamping her party’s job-killing agenda, Ann Kirkpatrick has landed herself on Roll Call’s Top 10 Most Vulnerables list. Her ranking at number nine is further proof that Kirkpatrick’s time in Washington is quickly coming to an end. After recent polling shows Kirkpatrick neck and neck with Republican opponent Paul Gosar, her chances for re-election are becoming so slim that even her own party is contemplating abandoning the imperiled Democrat – even Kirkpatrick has seemingly thrown in the towel. With all of the cards stacked against her, Kirkpatrick is facing a serious challenge to hold on to her Congressional seat this November.

In some election years, Roll Call has had to scrape to complete its Top 10 Most Vulnerables list. This year, we had the opposite problem. In fact, so many Members are in danger this cycle that we considered expanding the list into a Top 20. Or more. But in the interest of tradition, we’ve kept to 10 our list of Members least likely to serve in the 112th Congress. And yes, we realize we included only one Republican. Ranked in order of vulnerability.

9. Ann Kirkpatrick (D-Ariz.)
1st term (56 percent)

The Congresswoman’s 17-point win in 2008 was impressive, but it was aided by the GOP’s inability to recruit a top-tier candidate. Kirkpatrick outspent her opponent 3-to-1 last time, but she will have no such luck against Paul Gosar, a well-funded dentist. In the Republican-leaning district, Gosar is campaigning hard against the Democrats’ big-ticket legislation, especially health care, and Kirkpatrick’s support for it. The race will be closer this time, and not in Kirkpatrick’s favor.

Even more interesting is their chart of experts' predictions on many House seats the GOP will take back. They are all predicting at least 35 seats, and Schweikert has been ranked the 35th most likely seat to switch parties (and that includes a few seats that will switch to Democrat, so Schweikert's odds are even better).
