Republican Attorney General nominee Tom Horne says yesterday's announced attempt by labor unions to prevent officers from checking a criminal's immigration status is irresponsible. Horne is endorsed by numerous law enforcement agencies in Arizona representing front line police officers, sheriff’s deputies and highway patrol officers. Horne is calling on his Democrat opponent, Felecia Rotellini to denounce these efforts that are led by unions who have supported her candidacy.
"The law could not be clearer, a person who enters the United States without going through the appropriate process is here illegally," Horne noted. "For the AFL-CIO, which supports Felecia Rotellini's candidacy, to demand that the Obama administration strip local and state law enforcement agencies of the power to check the immigration status of arrestees is absurd and irresponsible. Ms. Rotellini should denounce this attempt to hamstring law enforcement professionals of their ability to do their job. It is already bad enough that she has said that S.B. 1070 'does nothing to solve our immigration problem', she wants to make the problem worse by giving police even fewer powers to prevent criminal activity. It is irresponsible of her, and it proves she has no business laying claim to being an effective advocate for S.B. 1070 as it faces the Obama legal assault in federal court."
"I am confident Arizona voters will see through this charade and reject the tactics of the AFL-CIO and its preferred candidates who absurdly support illegal immigrants while putting citizens at risk, Horne said"
