AZ REPUBLICAN CONGRESSIONAL CANDIDATES UPDATE for Thursday Sept 30, 2010

Polling Shows McClung / Grijalva Race Up For Grabs
September 29th, 2010

For Immediate Release

The first concrete data on the race between Republican challenger Ruth McClung and her Democratic opponent, incumbent Raul Grijalva, is in--and it's not looking so good for Mr. Grijalva. A survey of 450 voters in Arizona's 7th Congressional District shows Rep. Grijalva with a narrowing 7-point lead in this key race.

The polling, conducted by American Political Consultants at the behest of the McClung campaign, has a margin of 4.3%.

"Voters are tired of politicians who put their own interests ahead of their constituents," noted Ruth McClung. "Mr. Grijalva's boycott of his home state, his failed economic policies and his indifference to the voters is catching up with him."

42% of those polled said they were supporting Rep. Grijalva. While 35% were in favor of McClung, with a whopping 23% still undecided.

"It's unusual to have that many people undecided this late in the election cycle," said McClung, noting that Grijalva has secured more than 60% of the vote in each of his past two elections. "It's clear that a huge percentage of the voters in CD7 are tired of Mr. Grijalva and his antics. Now we just have to get my message out there, let people know that there is an alternative-someone who will work to create jobs, not boycott them."
The message from voters is clear. Raul Grijalva's tax-borrow-and-spend policies, his rash and harmful boycott, and the failures of this congress and administration are wrong for Arizona. Ruth McClung supports lower taxes, smaller government, and job growth. Voters in CD7 have a choice, and that choice is clear.

Novack will be joined by Republican Congressional candidate Dr. Paul Gosar. "He's a dentist and I'm a surgeon," said Novack. "Together, we'll give voters a broad look at health care reform."

Job-killing tax threat left hanging over America

PHOENIX (September 29, 2010) – By the margin of one vote the Democrat-controlled Congress has voted to shut down, ignoring important business yet to be done. Democrats in Congress continue to threaten the American people and our nation’s economy with the most massive tax hikes in history," said Ben Quayle, candidate for CD 3 in Arizona.

Without Congressional action, the current tax rates in America will end on December 31, and on January 1 the American people will be hit with the largest tax increase in history. Making the current tax rates permanent for all Americans is a critical necessity for restoring economic growth and putting our citizens back to work. Uncertainty surrounding taxes is destroying business confidence and preventing job creation.

“Massive tax hikes and the threat of massive tax hikes are exactly what Americans and American businesses do not need as we continue to struggle for economic recovery,” Quayle said.

"Continued uncertainty about tax hikes simply builds more uncertainty in the marketplace," Quayle said, as he has throughout this campaign. “Small businesses generate the vast majority of new jobs in America today, roughly two-thirds of the net new jobs each year,” said Quayle. “It is our obligation to help these business owners keep their employees, hire more workers, and create the goods and services that fuel our economy. Hanging this tax hike over their heads is a job killer in Arizona and every state in America. “

“The next jobs lost should be those of the elected representatives who have one again damaged American competitiveness and economic recovery,” Quayle said.

About Ben Quayle

Ben Quayle is running in the 3rd Congressional District of Arizona. Ben Quayle is the fourth generation in his family to live and work in Arizona. Ben will fight for the Third Congressional District of Arizona, conservative principles and the future of this great nation. Ben will cut taxes and spending, fight for real healthcare reform not a government takeover, defend our country and our troops, end bailouts and so-called stimulus, secure our borders and restore America’s leadership in the world. Franks Sends Letter Asking Clinton to Condemn Ahmadinejad Remarks
September 29, 2010 - In a letter released today, Congressman Trent Franks (AZ-02) asked Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to publicly condemn recent remarks by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Franks asks that Clinton "deny a future visa to President Ahmadinejad until specific conditions are met by the Iranian government," also adding that, "President Ahmadinejad's belief that the United States was behind the attacks of September 11th and that 'the majority of the American people...agree with this view' should be immediately and firmly discredited."

Franks points out that, "Iran has announced that it is now enriching uranium to a level of 20%. This is four times the necessary enrichment level for peaceful energy generation purposes. They now have enough low-enriched uranium for two nuclear weapons, if enriched further," and that, "Iran refuses to fully cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) by answering vital questions about its nuclear program."

In light of the evidence, Franks says that, "President Ahmadinejad's words should be viewed as threats. He mocks the very foundation of legitimate democracies and freedom-loving nations," and urges Secretary of State Clinton to "publicly condemn the remarks of President Ahmadinejad relating to nuclear weapons, Israel's right to exist, and U.S. involvement in the September 11th attacks," and to, "prohibit President Ahmadinejad's entrance into the United States in the future."

The full text of the letter is attached.

Congressman Franks is serving his fourth term in the U.S. House of Representatives, and is a member of the Committee on Armed Services, Strategic Forces Subcommittee, Oversight & Investigations Subcommittee, Military Readiness Subcommittee, Committee on the Judiciary, Constitution Subcommittee, and is Ranking Member on the Subcommittee on Commercial and Administrative Law.
