Franks: Failure to Produce Budget Demonstrates Democrats' Inability to Govern
June 22, 2010 - Congressman Trent Franks (R - AZ) released the following statement in light of House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer's announcement that Democrats would not produce a budget this year:
"A government is what it spends, and a government without a budget is a government without direction.
"There was once a man who put it this way: 'If you can't budget, you can't govern.' Ironically, the man responsible for those words was
none other than John Spratt, the Democrat Chairman of the House Committee on the Budget, who made that statement four years ago.
"Likewise, four years ago, now-House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer said enacting a budget is 'the most basic responsibility of governing.'
"Following Mr. Hoyer's announcement today that Democrats have no intention of passing a budget this year, this Democrat majority is, by its very own criteria, failing the most basic responsibility of governing and categorically demonstrating its inability to govern."
Congressman Franks is serving his fourth term in the U.S. House of Representatives, and is a member of the Committee on Armed Services, Strategic Forces Subcommittee, Oversight & Investigations Subcommittee, Military Readiness Subcommittee, Committee on the Judiciary, Constitution Subcommittee, and is Ranking Member on the Subcommittee on Commercial and Administrative Law.
