Phoenix Light Rail Ridership Larger than Expected

In January 2009, ridership on the new Phoenix Light Rail System was 912,000. The goal ridership for weekday travel was 26,000; Metro reported 30,600.

Saturday passengers were the highest - 31,300; the goal was 20,800. Looks like the Phoenix Light Rail is becoming a huge success.

It will be very interesting to see how the numbers hold up as the "curiosity factor" begins to die down. Will new people begin to use the syatem or will they get back in their cars?
