Sen. Martinez to endorse McCain - from McCain Central By Dan Nowicki

From Dan Nowicki - Arizona Republic

MIAMI -- In a coup for Republican presidential candidate John McCain, Sen. Mel Martinez, R-Fla., will endorse the Arizona Republican in Florida's influential GOP primary.

Martinez joins fellow Cuban-American Reps. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, Lincoln Diaz-Balart and Mario Diaz-Balart in supporting McCain.

The Republican trio represents South Florida districts in Congress. Florida's Cuban-American population, marked by continued opposition to communist Cuban leader Fidel Castro, is influential in the state's Republican politics.

"I go all the way back to the Cuban Missile Crisis
as a young Navy pilot on the deck of the USS Enterprise, ready to launch,"
McCain said today in Tampa. "So I will bring freedom to the people of Cuba. And
when Castro meets Karl Marx, which I hope is soon, it will be a great
opportunity to bring democracy and freedom to the people of Cuba. I know how to
do it."

Martinez, who also previously served as Republican National Committee general chairman, is expected to make an appearance with McCain shortly.

NOTE: THIS IS HUGE NEWS FOR THE McCAIN TEAM. CUBAN-AMERICANS MAKE UP 67% OF THE VOTERS IN MIAMI-DADE COUNTY AND WILL HELP JOHN McCAIN WIN THE FLORIDA PRIMARY!
