Article Excerpts
Today is the much-anticipated Republican presidential primary in this state. It's also the day when all but the most ironclad political partisans have a tough decision to make.
While this state doesn't have party registration, there are many South Carolinians who are staunch activists in a political party or who adhere firmly to a party line. The decision on whether they will vote in the Republican primary today or its Democratic counterpart next Saturday should be easy and doubtless was made when these races began in earnest last year.
We made our choice on Thursday when we urged voters to give the Republican nomination to Arizona Sen. John McCain. As we noted then, we supported the senator eight years ago for the Republican nomination and believe his record since then is even more impressive.
Today, voters once again have the chance to give a mainstream conservative with proven leadership in Congress on both the domestic and national security front a critical victory. Unless you are a committed Democrat, go to the GOP polls today and vote for John McCain.
