The McCain Update - November 17, 2007

We wanted to pass along this excellent op-ed, "The Character Factor," by The New York Times columnist David Brooks. As you know, Brooks is one of our nation's most respected conservative writers, having been a senior editor at The Weekly Standard and also an editor at The Wall Street Journal for many years. We think you will agree that Brooks makes what we believe is the most compelling case for electing John McCain president, and, in doing so, why John McCain is also the strongest Republican candidate to take on the Democratic nominee. We hope you will take the time to read this piece and forward his words to as many folks as possible.

About six months ago, I was having lunch with a political consultant and we were having a smart-alecky conversation about the presidential race. All of sudden, my friend interrupted the flow of gossip and said:
"You know, there's really only one great man running
for president this year, and that's McCain."
The comment cut through the way we pundits normally talk about presidential candidates. We tend to view them like products and base our verdicts on their market share at the moment. We don't so much evaluate their character; we analyze how effectively they are manipulating their image to appeal to voters, and in this way we buy into the artificiality of modern campaigning.

We need as many people as possible to
read this article, so be sure to forward it to your friends and family. Your help is critical in communicating that John McCain is not only the best prepared to lead our country, but also the best conservative candidate to defeat Hillary Clinton in the general election.

The McCain Resurgence

This week, polling data released by Fox News, Rasmussen Reports, SurveyUSA and Quinnipiac show once again why John McCain is the only conservative who can beat Hillary Clinton in the general election next fall. In addition, the data shows that among presidential hopefuls, John McCain has the lowest level of core opposition. For the details of these polls, click here.

Voters are coming to the conclusion that John McCain is the only candidate who can beat Hillary Clinton and restore trust in government.

The latest polling data makes it clear that voters want to nominate a candidate who can beat Hillary Clinton without compromising the bedrock principles the Republican Party was founded on. To read more about the polls,

I need to trust somebody because I don't agree with anybody's platform front to back," Schilling said.
