This week we launched a new television ad in New Hampshire featuring John McCain at the Fox News Debate last Sunday. During the debate, John McCain received a standing ovation when he pointed out Hillary Clinton's support of a $1 million earmark for the Woodstock concert museum. Other candidates talk about stopping wasteful spending, but John McCain is the one man who has made fiscal responsibility a centerpiece of his career.
This ad is getting large amounts of national media attention and we need your help to keep spreading the message and keep our TV ads on the air. Polls have consistently shown John McCain is the only conservative Republican in this race who can beat Hillary Clinton. John McCain performs better than Rudy Giuliani, Mitt Romney and Fred Thompson in head to head match-ups with Senator Clinton; click here to see why.
Our latest ad only begins to expose Hillary Clinton's attempts to spend tax payers' money on frivolous, wasteful projects. As John McCain said Sunday night, "No one can be president of the United States that supports projects such as these." Your contribution will help make sure this holds true.
Happy Shootdown Day
Forty years ago today, on October 26, 1967, John McCain was shot down over Hanoi, captured by the North Vietnamese, and began nearly six years of captivity as a prisoner of war. One of the rituals of the POWs in Vietnam was to send messages of "congratulations" to a fellow POW, tapped through the walls, that recognized the anniversary of the tragic day the pilot was shot down, commonly referred to as "shootdown day". Click here to read a "Happy Shootdown Day" message from John McCain’s fellow POWs.
The story of McCain's five and a half years of torture, beatings and solitary confinement is well known. Less known is the powerful faith he developed in his God, his country and his fellow prisoners of war. He says his closest relationships and friendships today are with the men who served with him as a POW. The Guts to Show Up
Last night John McCain participated in the AARP Presidential Candidate Forum in Sioux City, Iowa. What was supposed to be a debate between the leading GOP candidates on issues important to Iowa caucus-goers, turned out to be a no show event for most of the candidates except John McCain and Mike Huckabee. John McCain was proud to attend and not afraid of discussing the critically important issue of healthcare with Iowa voters.
During this forum, John McCain talked about ways to decrease the cost of health care and to make it more accessible to those who cannot afford insurance. As president, he will work to create tax credits to help offset the cost of health insurance premiums and encourage the use of personal health accounts. It was a great event with a strong crowd and straight talk about healthcare and social security.
On Wednesday, John McCain spoke at the International Relations Forum in Des Moines. The debate over America's future engagement in Iraq and elsewhere seems increasingly disconnected from larger regional trends. He discussed the critical need for a new strategic framework to think about the Middle East. John McCain's experienced leadership and bold solutions to tough challenges is what we need to lead this change as our next Commander in Chief.

In case you missed it:
National Review: "A Second Look At McCain" - "... Republicans seeking to keep their party's base intact, while appealing to independents in order to have a shot at defeating Hillary, are taking another look at John McCain. A veteran GOP congressional aide who has been a critic of McCain, ... recently surprised himself by concluding that the Arizona senator would be the best general-election candidate."
