Breaking News - Today's 'WAKE UP ARIZONA' Press Conference...

Press Conference

From Left to Right: Jeff Moorad (AZ Dbacks); Mac Magruder (Chairman of Wake Up AZ and McDonald’s franchise owner); Ray Arvizu (Arvizu Advertising and Promotions); Jason LeVecke (AZ Employers for Immigration Reform; owner of Carl’s Jr. franchises); Steve Chucri (CEO of AZ Restaurant Association); Nicole Dreier (white suite; representing SW Burger King Franchise Owners Association)

Mac Magruder –
“I would like to thank three of our states leaders for having the courage to be
engaged in the process of fixing this problem. They are Senators John
McCain and Jon Kyl and Representative Jeff Flake. They understand the unintended
consequences [of the employer sanctions law] and have had the courage to lead in
face of great opposition from many of our friends.”

“The purpose
of Wake Up Arizona! is to educate everyone in our great state about the
devastating unintended consequences of the so-called employer sanctions law that
the Governor recently signed.

“I want to say this very clearly.
Illegal immigration into our country has reached a crisis level.

“I and the other members of this coalition want a secure border
and a legal work force. We understand the frustration that everyone feels about
this issue.

“Unfortunately, this law does nothing to stop illegal
immigration. The so called employer sanctions law should really be called the
job destruction law because everyone in Arizona who has a job will now find that
job in jeopardy.”

Go, Mac, go! Great work.

Nice to see the pro-business side of the Republican Party represented.

Oh - you mean the "I'll do anything, even if it's illegal to make a buck" business side of the 'republican party?'

The employer sanctions law will have devastating effects in our communities, especially in our schools.
Our governor said that we are taking on federal responsibilities by passing this law. our state is doiung what the federal government should be doing.
Why couldn't our state issue temporary worker permits for people to work in Arizona for a limited time, say 3 years? If we are going to go through all the trouble of verifying the work status of employees, why can't we take on another federal function and grant work permits valid only in Arizona.
It sounds
