After Game 6's disappointing loss to San Antonio, what next for our Phoenix Suns?
As bleak as things seem, the SUNS are actually in a great position coming into the 2007 NBA Draft. With a possible 3 First Round Draft Picks (Suns get Atlanta's Pick #4 if the Hawks don't make the Top 3 in the Draft Lottery on Tuesday), the Suns can do some wheeling and dealing. If the Memphis Grizzlies get the #1 Pick, they will certainly choose Greg Oden, the 7 foot sensation from Ohio State. If Boston wins the Lottery & Memphis gets the 2nd Choice, look for the Suns to jump on this. With Memphis interviewing Suns Assistant Marc Ivaroni for their vacant Head Coaching job, might make an interesting scenerio for a trade. The Suns can send Shawn Marion, Boris Diaw, and the Suns 21st & 29th Picks in the 1st Round in 2007 for the #2 pick. Now I am not sure of Memphis' status on the Salary Cap, but a third team is usually needed to complete trades of this stature. Can you just imagine seeing Kevin Durant on the front line with Amare? Then with the #4 Pick, choose Joaquin Noah of Florida. A front line of Amare, Durant & Noah would be unbeatable.
A brilliant Free Agent pickup would be Mike Bibby from the Sacramento Kings. A Phoenix native, Bibby would love the chance to play for a championship and he is a much better shooter than Raja Bell. With a bench then made up of Bell, Leandro Barbosa, & Kurt Thomas, the Suns would be in a much better position with a deeper bench. The Suns need more depth on the bench, that has been their downfall the last 2 years in the playoffs. I know, the Suns still need a backup point Guard, I am sure they can find a suitable candidate in either the Draft or in Free Agency.
One last thing about the Suns. Jerry Colangelo, after 38 years (second largest tenure with the same team, behind only Boston’s Red Auerbach) is leaving the Phoenix Suns. With the Suns, his roles have included general manager, head coach, president and now chairman and chief executive officer.
He also helped bring the Arizona Diamondbacks to MLB in 1995 and the D-Backs brought the 1st World Championship to Arizona in 2001 (who would have ever thought the D-Backs would win a title before the Suns).
During Colangelo's run, Phoenix owns the fourth-best all-time winning percentage with a 1698-1386 (.551) mark, trailing only the Lakers (.615, 2806-1759), Boston (.593, 2770-1905) and San Antonio (.591, 1435-993).
Jerry Colangelo in 1987, stepped up and coordinated a group of investors that purchased the club for $44.5 million on October 14, 1987. That transaction was the first of many that helped Colangelo not only stabilize the basketball organization but also transform downtown Phoenix into an active and thriving district.
He is now the President of USA Basketball, the group that runs the men's & women's 2008 Olympic Teams from the USA. I want to thank Mr. Colangelo for all he has done here in Phoenix since arriving here in 1968. Without Jerry Colangelo, the Arizona Sports world would not be the success that it is today.

Tell us what you think the Suns will do? I know many Politico Mafioso readers are big Suns fans, so let us know what you think? Unlike another Blog, your comments here are NEVER moderated. We believe in Free Speech here....

You got it all wrong, Suns should trade Jalen Rose for the #2 pick overall.
TR you kill me bro. You couldn't get a used Puck Bag for Jalen Rose. I was watching Jude LaCava on Fox 10 Sports Night last night. He brought up an excellent observation. This "revolving" GM spot the Suns are attempting to use has failed. Every single trade or player they acquired last year failed miserably. He said the Suns have the answer right under their noses......bring back Jerry Colangelo as GM. But we all know Robert Sarver's ego won't allow that, so I pray the Suns don't screw this up!
