today elected a Conservative as their new President!
Conservative Nicolas Sarkozy has won the hotly-contested French presidential election, according to early results.
With three quarters of votes counted, Mr Sarkozy has 53%, compared with 47% for socialist Segolene Royal, while turnout is put at 85%.
Mr Sarkozy, 52, the son of a Hungarian immigrant, takes over from the 74-year-old Jacques Chirac.
"The French people have called for change. I will carry out that change, because that's the mandate I have received from the French people."
Sarkozy added that he wanted to tell his "American friends that they can rely on our friendship ... France will always be next to them when they need us."
Won't this be a breath of fresh air? The 'Frogs' always seem to forget who saved their asses in WWI & WWII.
