Randy Pullen promised to be neutral in the upcoming Presidential primaries. However, he is taking credit for having landed Duncan Hunter as the next keynote speaker for the Trunk-N-Tusk event. This was clearly his attempt to throw a bone to the anti-McCain forces (namely Rob Haney and Lyle Tuttle) as he ran for Chairman, and whose support he needed to win (whew! it was closer than they expected!).
Bringing a competing presidential aspirant (who is considered to be a third tier candidate at best) into the home state of a senior Senator who happens to be either the frontrunner, or number 2 (depending on what polls you read) and give him a profile at a party event is a real slap in the face, and NOT neutral.
It would be one thing to have either Rudy or Mitt Romney - guys with real possibility. But Duncan Hunter is not much more than a gadfly in the Presidential field. He does not have a record of raising big money. In the last election, he raised and spent about $1 million. Half of that money came from PACs because of his position as the House Armed Service Chairman. There won't be three PACs who give him money for a Presidential run. So, in a year when a serious contender will need to raise $100 million by the end of 2007, Hunter will be lucky to crack the $500K mark.
So, for those keeping score at home, Pullen has already broken his first pledge... what will be next?

Welcome to our newest team member, 'GRASSROOTS GIRL'. Many of you have seen her marvelous posts on some of the other Blogs. We at Politico Mafioso are proud to have her as part of the team. YOU GO GIRL!!!
Let's me put this out there. Wouldn't neutrality show that we weren't favoring McCain. This event is just giving Congressman Hunter a chance to meet the Republicans of this state. I'm sure in the future that the other candidates will come through and probably even have Party events. Congressman Hunter is just the first in the being neutral. I'm sure now the Gov. Romney has set up a committee here in Arizona we will be hearing for him too. Don't be so quick to judge. The Duncan Hunter event has been planned for a couple of weeks now.
But I'll be honest here in Arizona McCain will be the candidate to beat. Doesn't mean all of us will support him. Just because Trent Franks endorsed Duncan Hunter doesn't mean I am either.
