Congressman Shadegg is calling attention to a horrendous provision in the health bill that he tried to defeat in committee. The provision is preserved—even extended—on page 140 of the bill released this morning. It is in section 514 of ERISA, and it’s a law that has given insurers immunity from paying damages when they deny recommended care that results in injury or even death to a patient covered by their plan.
