From the Arizona Capitol Times 'Yellow Sheet Report':
Seel is being sued in small claims court for failing to pay back a payday loan. The suit was filed June 16 by Payday Loan Store of AZ #341, located at 27th Avenue and Camelback Road.
The one-page filing notes that a deferred presentment agreement was not honored by Seel. "Check #110 in the amount of $588.23 was dishonored by Arizona Federal Credit Union," the plaintiff claimed. The total sought is $613.23.
That suit, however, pales in comparison to a nearly $10,000 claim Seel had been fighting all year long. That lawsuit was brought by the Law Office of David Acer, who had represented Seel in a pair of 2006 ballot challenges. (In one, Seel successfully challenged the validity of Clancy Jayne's signatures. In the other, he successfully defended himself from a challenge from Jayne.)
In the lawsuit, which was filed Dec. 16, 2009, Acer alleges Seel and his wife, Jamie, had not paid any money since November 2006 and still owed $9,788.58.
Acer asked Justice of the Peace Steve Sarkis to award him the money owed - plus 10 percent annual interest since December 2006 - and attorney's fees. However, both Seel and Acer failed to show at a June 25 pre-trial conference and Sarkis dismissed the case. Multiple calls to Seel, Acer and his attorney, David Kennedy, were not returned.
