ANY “GRAND BARGAIN” MUST INCLUDE:

1. NO NET TAX INCREASE

2. NO DE-COUPLING OF TAX RATES

3. NO SEQUESTER WITHOUT REAL SPENDING REDUCTIONS

4. NO TWO-STEP PROCESS THAT KICKS THE CAN DOWN THE ROAD

5. NO INCREASE TO THE DEBT LIMIT WITHOUT BUDGET CUTS and SPENDING CAPS

PLEDGES MADE SHOULD BE PLEDGES KEPT!!!

RE: Averting the “Fiscal Cliff” through significant spending cuts, entitlement reform, and tax reform with lower rates for individuals. The Federal government clearly has a problem with spending money it doesn’t have—see $16 trillion debt.

ISSUE IN BRIEF: The term “Fiscal Cliff” is the name given to the possible effect if a number of laws–due to expire–are not extended or modified. The result would be tax increases and spending cuts. These are all coming to a head at the same time because Congress passed and the President signed the Budget Control Act of 2011 enacting automatic spending cuts to begin on January 2, 2013.

ACTION: Conservatives should insist that negotiations on any “Grand Bargain” be an open process for the citizens to observe for themselves and President Obama should submit a plan in the form of actual legislation so all will have time to read it and express their opinions to their elected representatives.
