RON BARBER TAKES TO THE AIRWAVES WITH LIES AND MORE LIES

HERE WE GO AGAIN, BARBER TAKES TO THE AIRWAVES WITH LIES AND MORE LIES

Barber has embraced the Washington Insider playbook - when desperate, twist the truth and fire misleading attacks

Tucson - Today, Martha McSally released a statement in response to Ron Barber's latest false attack ad against her.

"It's sad. As our Congressman, Ron Barber has decided not to discuss how to help the families of Southern Arizona. Instead, Barber has taken his campaign into full attack mode. Instead of presenting his plan to help our struggling seniors and women who were hit hardest by the economic downturn, Barber prefers to sling mud. Ron Barber's lies are demeaning and a disservice to every voter in Southern Arizona. First he imply's the my place is in the kitchen and now he lies about my stance on women's rights.

I spent my career fighting for women's rights both here in America and across the globe. When I first found out that the Pentagon was requiring our service women to wear muslim garb no only did I speak out against it, but I did something about it. I put my career on the line and spent eight years of my life fighting the Pentagon, even suing the Secretary of Defense to get the policy repealed. In the end, I won and ensured that our service women are no longer being demeaned when they are stationed in Saudi Arabia. I'm insulted that Ron Barber could claim I am against women's right.

Having disagreements in a political campaign are necessary for a healthy democracy, but I believe serving up lies and mistruths with the intent to instill fear is exactly what voters are sick and tired. Barber's false attacks are precisely the reason why Americans are fed up with the political process. The problems people face in Southern Arizona are too important to brush under the rug of muddy attack ads.

"I challenge Ron Barber to stop his attack machine and make his campaign about what he is willing to do to address problems that face our economy and our future. I challenge Ron Barber to commit to waging a campaign of ideas and credentials, not personal smears. With houses under water and people struggling to find a job, I challenge Ron Barber to answer the concerns that trouble local families in our community."

HERE ARE THE FACTS

You can view the ad here: http://youtu.be/EimAsM6yPLc

  • Martha McSally is pro-life except in cases of rape, incest and life of the mother.

  • Ron Barber's attack ad claims Martha holds a different position, by citing a yes or no question from a survey, which does not address the issues above.

  • The survey the Barber campaign cites in their attacks from the Center for Arizona policy asks about "Prohibiting abortion except where it is necessary to prevent the death of the mother".

  • Martha McSally supports Title X funding which provides birth control to millions of women in America for free.

  • In the survey they use to cite their birth control attacks, the words 'birth control' are never written, not even once.
Martha McSally is the first female fighter pilot to fly in combat, and first to command a fighter squadron in combat in United States history. In 2001-2002, Martha McSally earned national recognition for successfully overturning a military policy requiring all U.S. servicewomen to wear Muslim clothing when off base in Saudi Arabia.
