Poll shows race tied with 29 days until
Election
Tucson - Today, the Martha McSally
for Congress campaign released a recent internal poll showing the race tied in
her campaign to unseat Congressional incumbent Ron Barber with 35 days left
until Election Day.
The poll, conducted by OnMessage Inc. on September 30th and October
1st, shows Barber receiving 47.5% and McSally receiving 47.3%, with 5% of votes
still undecided.
The poll shows that McSally has closed the 5% gap between her and
Barber from the August 7th poll. It also shows a highly increased favorably
rating for McSally with 52% having a favorable opinion of her and only 16%
having an unfavorable opinion.
Of the voters who have an opinion of both candidates (whether
favorable or unfavorable) McSally is leading by a 54% to 44% margin over
Barber. This is an extremely positive key leading indicator.
"Although this is just a snapshot in time, the
survey shows that Martha's campaign is peaking just before the all-important
early vote period starts in the 2nd District," said
campaign manager Bruce Harvie. "It is clear that the district is hungry for the
leadership and vision Martha McSally would bring to Washington and her agenda
focused on real solutions for Southern Arizona resonates with voters. It is
also clear that the voters of the 2nd Congressional District are tired of the
usual Washington partisan attacks and finger pointing that Barber continues to
employ. The voters want a strong independent leader like Martha McSally
fighting for them in Washington, and this survey shows exactly
that."
OnMessage Inc. is a national Republican polling and media firm,
conducting polls for Republican candidates at both the federal and state level.
In over 20 years of polling, OMI pollster Wes Anderson has conducted surveys and
focus groups in every region of the country.
Martha McSally is the first female fighter pilot to fly in combat,
and first to command a fighter squadron in combat in United States history. In
2001-2002, Martha McSally earned national recognition for successfully
overturning a military policy requiring all U.S. servicewomen to wear
Muslim clothing when off base in Saudi Arabia.
