The political life of recalled ex-Sen.
Russell Pearce is about to come to an end on August 28, 2012! Here are the Top
10 Reasons Russell Pearce is a Hypocrite:
10. In 2005,
Pearce wanted to allow each party’s caucus to choose the candidates for US
Senate and then send those choices on to voters to choose in the General
Election. Pearce did it as payback against Kyl and McCain, but one Republican
consultant called the move: “A right-wing conservative power grab in an effort
to disenfranchise hundreds of thousands of Arizona
voters.”
Fast forward to 2012. Pearce recently
submitted a written argument against the
open primary ballot measure where he argues the measure would “…effectively
blocks candidates who are not Republican or Democrat from making it onto your
General Election ballot.” He continues, “Even worse, they won’t even have the
opportunity to try to win. Americans love choices and we ought to have lots of
them, especially in our politics and candidates. Telling Arizonans that they are
only allowed to have two candidates to choose from is
un-American.”
9. In 2003, Pearce Introduced a resolution to opt
out of Patriot Act, stating, “I get very concerned when we are asked to give up
our civil liberties,” but Pearce had no problem passing SB1070, aka the “papers
please” legislation.
8. In 2003 Pearce cut the state’s judiciary budget
as retaliation for being fired a year earlier from his job as a part-time JP
because he wasn't a member of the State Bar. That same year, Russell’s brother
Lester lost his job as the presiding judge for Maricopa County after his
position was eliminated on grounds that it was “an administrative failure in
Maricopa County.” Many felt Pearce’s cuts were personal payback
for him and his brother Lester.
7. In 2004, Pearce sponsored HB2445 - wanted to
place a cap on amount any individual could give to a political party at
$50,000. That same bill eliminated restrictions on corporate contributions to
political candidates. Yet in 2011 during his failed recall election, Pearce
garnered
thousand of $$$ from out-of-state entities.
6. SB1539 This bill required MVD to license,
regulate and set towing rates across the state. Cities complained that the blll
would allow MVD to be a collection agency for towing companies and the plan
would do nothing to erase abuses by towing companies. Ironically, Pearce
was once listed as an employee of Cactus Towing on his campaign financial
disclosures.
5. HB2268 – This bill would allow – but not require
– a judge to deny bail to someone charged with a misdemeanor that fits under the
states domestic violence laws if the person “posed a substantial danger to any
other person in the community.” According to Pearce: “This bill goes beyond
what is reasonable.” Pearce said a spouse who feels endangered has other
remedies. We all know Pearce’s personal
past with allegations of spousal abuse.
4. HB2472 – Made significant changes to laws on
domestic violence, including a new requirement for jury trials in abuse cases an
making certain non-violent acts no longer qualify as grounds for judges to issue
orders of protection. Pearce though the system was too one-sided, allowing
abuses in which a wife may get an order by making false accusations against her
husband merely to get a leg up in divorce or child-custody proceedings. Sounds
personal.
3. Criticized Governor Jane Hull’s use of DPS plane
because it was an abuse of state resources, yet took nearly
$40,000 in Fiesta Bowl tickets, trips, plane tickets and freebies; AND took
advantage of the state’s alt fuels tax credit by purchasing a personal vehicle,
a fiasco of a program that ultimately cost the state more than $200 million
dollars.
2. Russell Pearce is endorsed by the NRA even after he blames the victims of the Colorado shootings:
and the #1 Reason Russell Pearce is a
Hypocrite........
In 2005, Russell Pearce sponsored HB
2686 - 16-926. Code of
fair campaign practices
which included the
following:
