Tucson - Arizona Senator Jon Kyl
today announced his endorsement of Col. (ret) Martha McSally in the race for
Southern Arizona's new 2nd Congressional District. McSally, the first woman to
fly a fighter in combat and command a fighter squadron in U.S. history, once
served in Sen. Kyl's office as one of only seven active duty Air Force officers
selected to serve as Legislative Fellows.
"Martha McSally's record of
service and leadership in the military, on Capitol Hill, and working with our
allies from around the world makes her uniquely qualified to represent the
people of Southern Arizona" Kyl said. "I had the pleasure of getting to know
Martha very well when she worked with me in Washington, D.C. I witnessed her
intellect, capacity, and grasp of complex issues first hand. Voters in the new
2nd District are fortunate to have such a principled, strong, conservative woman
ready to step up and provide fresh leadership in Congress."
After retiring from the Air
Force, McSally served as a Professor of National Security Studies at the George
C. Marshall Center where she mentored senior government and military leaders
from around the globe on the principles of democracy, capitalism and
international security. She is a Distinguished Graduate of the United States Air
Force Academy and has earned Masters Degrees from the JFK School of Government
and the U.S. Air War College.
"I learned so much from Senator
Kyl's example," McSally said. "He's a brilliant leader who works tirelessly to
make a difference by being credible and respected by his colleagues on so many
issues. Senator Kyl is thoughtful, measured, and he gets things done, and that's
exactly the type of Congresswoman I will be when I get to Washington. "
"I am absolutely humbled and
honored to have been able to earn his endorsement," McSally concluded.
