POLITICS ON THE ROCKS - Thursday October 27th - 6:00PM with Special Guest GOP Presidential Candidate Gov. Gary Johnson

Politics on the Rocks is pleased to announce that Presidential Candidate Governor Gary Johnson will be speaking at our upcoming free networking event on Thursday, October 27th 6:00 PM at The Mint in Scottsdale located at 7373 E Camelback Rd. in Scottsdale, Arizona. Part restaurant, part ultra-lounge, The Mint occupies a 7,000 square foot space that was previously a bank, giving inspiration to the name. In a nod to its past, The Mint’s centerpiece is the original vault door, while updated touches evoke a Hollywood Regency design influence. Click here for more information on The Mint. We would like to thank our marketing partners Gem Ray, Scottsdale Nights, and Gia Heller of the AZ Business Experts.

Governor Johnson, who has been referred to as the ‘most fiscally conservative Governor’ in the country, was the Republican Governor of New Mexico from 1994-2003. A successful businessman before running for office in 1994, Governor Johnson started a door-to-door handyman business to help pay his way through college. Twenty years later, he had grown the firm into one of the largest construction companies in New Mexico with over 1,000 employees. Not surprisingly, Governor Johnson brings a distinctly business-like mentality to governing, believing that decisions should be made based on cost-benefit analysis rather than strict ideology. Johnson is best known for his veto record, which includes over 750 vetoes during his time in office, more than all other governors combined and his use of the veto pen has since earned him the nickname “Governor Veto.” He cut taxes 14 times while never raising them. Wen he left office, New Mexico was one of only four states in the country with a balanced budget. Term-limited, Johnson retired from public office in 2003. An avid skier, adventurer, and bicyclist, he has currently reached four of the highest peaks on all seven continents, including Mt. Everest in 2009. After becoming increasingly concerned with the country’s out-of-control national debt and precarious financial situation, the Governor formed the OUR America Initiative, a 501c(4) non-profit that promotes fiscal responsibility, civil liberties, and rational public policy. He traveled to more than 30 states and spoke to over 150 conservative and libertarian groups during his time as Honorary Chairman. He has two grown children - a daughter Seah and a son Erik - and currently resides in a house he built himself in Taos, New Mexico. Our charity of the month for October is “Packages from Home”. Their sole purpose is to provide food, personal care, and recreational items to deployed American troops, at no cost to them. Since March 2005 they have averaged 1,000 to 1,500 packages a month being shipped to our heroes. Their goal is to ship many more. They collect donated items from generous patriotic citizens who live all across America. These items include non-perishable food, personal toiletries, and recreational items like games, books, music CDs and movie DVDs. If you feel inclined to participate in this charity, please bring these types of goods to the event. They will then be given to the charity to be shipped to American Troops. For more information on Packages from Home, please visit their website.

We look forward to seeing everyone on Thursday, October 27th 6:00 PM at The Mint in Scottsdale.
