Greg Stanton: A Hero of Big Government

Greg Stanton: A Hero of Big Government

A look at his record shows an alarming lack of fiscal restraint

PHOENIX – Career-politician Greg Stanton is fond of saying that he’s consistent. He says voters know what they’re getting – they just need to look at his record from his decade on the Phoenix City Council.

Well, if that’s the case, voters should know if they elect Stanton as Mayor, they’ll get one of the biggest champions of big government in the state.

During his last two years on the Phoenix City Council, Greg Stanton was among the biggest spending politicians in Arizona.

In 2007, Americans for Prosperity gave him a -5 and labeled him a “Champion of Big Government.”

Think that’s bad? Oh, it gets worse.

The following year – his final year before quitting to work as Terry Goddard’s lobbyist – Stanton received a -6 and was awarded the honor of being a “Hero of Big Government.”

It’s no surprise that in this race, Stanton has proposed more than 40 ways to grow city government and has repeatedly dodged the question of how he’d pay for his big government agenda.

“Greg Stanton has a clear record of being a big-time tax and spender,” said Gullett spokesman Daniel Scarpinato. “Under a Stanton administration, city government would explode with spending. Only Wes Gullett has a plan to reduce spending, keep taxes lows and reform government.”
