CONG. BEN QUAYLE - Join Us Tuesday For Our First Town Hall

Dear Friends:

This coming Tuesday, March 22, I will be hosting my first of many town hall meetings back in the district. The town hall will take place at Thunderbird High School, located at 1750 West Thunderbird Road, Phoenix, Arizona. 85023. The program lasts from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. PST. Doors open at 6:00 p.m.

Town hall meetings are democracy in action, and on Tuesday night, you will be able to ask me direct questions about the issues and concerns most important to you. I encourage you to bring your family, friends and colleagues as well.

This Tuesday the House passed a three-week, short-term funding bill that averted a government shutdown and cut $6 billion from our increasingly bloated federal budget. While I’m no fan of these short-term funding measures, I am not going to pass up on an opportunity to cut that much wasteful spending. My principal goals as your representative in Washington are to get the economy going again, create jobs and to cut spending. My vote on Tuesday reflected a commitment to those goals. I am confident that this will be the last short-term funding bill. It is imperative that the House and Senate work out a deal on a long-term funding bill that will last through September 30 and that includes significant spending cuts. Once a long-term spending cut package is enacted, we can finally begin to tackle the fundamental sources of our national debt, especially entitlements and the tax code.

Throughout the ongoing budget debate, one voice has been noticeably absent: President Obama’s. The American public deserves to know where he stands on these critical issues. The debates we’re having in Congress today will likely have major implications on this country for generations to come. At a time when decisive leadership is required on the domestic front, we’ve seen a complete lack of it from the White House.

I hope you will join us this coming Tuesday for what promises to be a lively discussion on these and many other issues.

Sincerely,

Ben Quayle
