Looks like the new Tom Morrissey/Rob Haney strategy to purge the Arizona Republican Party of anyone they don't consider "pure" has already started to bear fruit.
Yesterday, former Republican candidate for U.S. Senate Jim Deakin announced his resignation from the Republican Party.
While the "true conservatives" in the party are certainly cheering this news (another RINO/McCain Hack gone, only a few hundred thousand more to go!), this really isn't a good development for the Republican Party.
Most party activists don't put out a press release when they quit a political party. They simply stop showing up at events, and stop writing checks.
How many more former Republicans are out there who heard the Haney/Morrissey message "you are not welcome here anymore" loud and clear?
Tom Morrissey is a big fan of Jim DeMint, the South Carolina Senator who famously declared that he'd "rather have thirty conservatives in the Senate than the majority." I'm sure that line gets a lot of applause at Tea Parties filled with political novices and lunatics, but it doesn't get bills passed in the Senate.
The same logic applies to the GOP as a whole. You can have a party made up of Tom Morrissey, Russell Pearce, Rob Haney, Tom Husband, and the few hundred others that can pass their ideological pureness test, but that isn't a party that wins elections.
So congratulations Mr. Haney and Mr. Morrissey - another Republican has left the party. Your strategy is working! But I guess my question is- what's your end game?

Great Post! Is this what the 'McCain Haters' wished for?
What a mess and it's only been a couple of weeks.
