Phoenix City Councilmember Michael Johnson has joined fellow Councilmember Peggy Neely’s Exploratory Committee for the office of Mayor of Phoenix, she announced today. The committee, with more than 400 members, is working to help Neely determine the level of support for a potential run for Mayor this year.

“Michael’s support is indicative of the positive reaction I have received from people across the City who are ready to support my possible candidacy,” Neely said. “I am grateful for his friendship and his early commitment to me as I go through this process,” she added.

“From the beginning Peggy and I have worked closely together to bring jobs and business to the City,” Johnson said. “She is a dedicated public servant who puts the residents of Phoenix first every day,” Johnson added.

“We share a desire to focus on the development and economic growth of the city, the creation of more jobs for Phoenix residents and our ability to maintain the quality of basic city services,” Neely said. “Michael’s perspective will be invaluable.”

Neely expects to announce whether she will enter the Mayor’s race sometime this spring.
