Just when you thought the political Arizona-bashing had finally come to an end with the close of the 2010 election season, up pops Democratic spokesperson Jim Pederson, writing about how much better New York City is than Phoenix or the state. Seriously?
This brand of negative commentary didn't win any points with voters this year, yet some just can't resist the temptation to continue painting the state as a second-class destination ("Arizona's greatness resides in its cities," My Turn, Nov. 22).
It's time to move on and move forward together, focused on what is right with our city and state.
We have strong communities and resilient people who are weathering the storm of the recession.
We continue to attract new companies to our communities because of the quality of life. And we have leaders who know how to get things done.
Looking ahead, what we need in 2011 is a resolution to forge positive solutions on matters important to Arizonans such a job creation, economic development and reduced government spending, not an approach that centers on walking around Manhattan. New York City is a unique place in the world and interesting to visit; but, like most Arizonans, I wouldn't want to live there. -
