PHOENIX, AZ -- U.S. Senator John McCain’s re-election campaign today continues its series of daily “Who Is Rodney Glassman?” fact checks outlining for voters the Democratic Senate candidate’s out-of-the mainstream liberal views. Today’s issue: Glassman’s close embrace of the labor union SEIU, which is leading the boycott against Arizona.
On Wednesday, Rodney Glassman failed to put Arizona first and renounce the endorsement of Congressman Raul Grijalva, the architect of the boycott against Arizona.
Today the McCain campaign calls on Glassman to stand up for Arizona and reject the endorsement of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), which is leading the boycott against our state over SB 1070. The McCain campaign further calls on Glassman to return the $5,000 that SEIU has contributed to his campaign.
McCain 2010 Communications Director Brian Rogers issued the following statement calling on Glassman to reject SEIU’s endorsement and return their campaign contribution:
“Rodney Glassman has based his entire Senate candidacy on the notion that he’ll put Arizona first. But when given the opportunity to stand up for Arizona and renounce the endorsement of the architect of the boycott against our state, Raul Grijalva, he stood down -- choosing the liberal special interests over the well-being of
hardworking Arizonans.
“Today Rodney has a choice: Stand with the union bosses at SEIU who are waging economic war on Arizona, or reject their endorsement, return their money and make it crystal clear that Arizona comes first. It’s time to man up, Rodney. The ball is in your
court.” -- McCain 2010 Communications Director Brian Rogers

The Arizona Republic Reported In August That Significant Numbers Of Arizona SEIU Members Quit The Union Over Its Boycott Against Arizona.
“Dozens of city employees in Chandler, Tempe and Gilbert have quit the Service Employees International Union this year over what some are saying is the organization's decision to boycott Arizona over SB 1070, the state's controversial immigration-enforcement law. The 58 who pulled out of the union in Chandler since the organization announced its national boycott May 5 cut the city's membership by about 30 percent - from 198 to 140 workers. The Tempe municipal employees' SEIU local saw 25 of its 264 members quit during the same period. Gilbert's 84 SEIU members represent a 16 percent drop from the 100 recorded in February. All three municipalities provided the membership numbers in response to public-records requests.” (Edythe Jensen, “Workers Quit Union Over Arizona Boycott,” The Arizona Republic, 8/23/10)
