HORNE: ROTELLINI CANNOT HIDE FROM FAILURES AND DISTORTIONS

Republican Attorney General nominee Tom Horne put Democrat Felecia Rotellini on the defensive regarding her stand on S.B. 1070 and her failure to act in her role as a mortgage regulator as the mortgage meltdown approached. The two debated tonight on the KAET Channel 8 'Horizon' program.

"Felecia Rotellini cannot hide, try as she might, from the fact that she has no credibility to represent Arizona on controversial matters such as the defense of S.B. 1070," Horne said.

Last night she tried to run away from her many public statements that she is opposed to S.B. 1070 and divert Arizonans from the fact that she cannot be trusted, as a point person for the Obama Administration, to defend positions that she opposes.

She is now trying to use linguistic gymnastics to try to convince people that S.B. 1070 simply doesn't go far enough, but Arizonans will see beyond her desperate rhetoric and look at the clear statements she has made in the past few months that show she is completely on the wrong side of the border security issue."

"In addition," Horne noted, "Ms. Rotellini tried to run from her failure in 2006 to deal with the approaching mortgage meltdown. In her role as a mortgage regulator in the Democrat Attorney General's office, Ms. Rotellini was warned in a letter by the Phoenix law firm of Snell & Wilmer that numerous Arizonans were potentially victims of a terrible mortgage scam - a warning that later proved to be true. Ms. Rotellini had the authority and the resources to do something to save the life savings of thousands of Arizonans. Sadly, she did not."

Horne added, "Ms. Rotellini has also demonstrated an inability to deal with facts. She resorted to personal attacks on me, even though I have pledged to keep this race on the issues. I believe voters will reject her attempts at mudslinging and pay attention to where each candidate stands on the issues.

Unlike Ms. Rotellini, I have always stood with the people on the matters of S.B. 1070 and border security, consumer protection and creating a legal climate to promote job growth. She has not done any of those things and voters will remember that in November."
