Day 231: Still No Budget Plan from Goddard

Budget certainty and predictability will continue to lead Arizona’s comeback

PHOENIX –– It has been 231 days since Terry Goddard was challenged to offer up budget solutions of his own. In that time, Jan Brewer passed a balanced state budget in record time and fought to protect education and public safety through the passage of Proposition 100.

“The greatest thing a government can do for business is create an environment of stability and predictability, balancing the budgets, providing for a safe society, and fostering an educated workforce,” said Governor Jan Brewer, “We have done just that in Arizona through balancing the budget and voters overwhelmingly supporting Proposition 100. Terry Goddard is doing the opposite and therefore following President Obama's example.”

Terry Goddard has oscillated between statements about budgets not being his job and claiming that he will have soon have a plan of his own. With the clock ticking, Goddard once again offered no assurance last night in the debate of when or if he would produce a budget plan for Arizona voters.

“Not only does Goddard refuse to defend the state against Obamacare and the billions it will cost, but he decries any and all necessary budget cuts without offering any plans of his own.” said Doug Cole, Governor Jan Brewer 2010 Communications Director, “When it comes to the Arizona budget, Terry Goddard has no basis in reality.”

Time and again, Arizona Democrats led by Terry Goddard, have been challenged to produce realistic, concrete proposals for solving the state’s fiscal problems. At each turn, they have opted to stay away and avoid being part of the budget solution.

“Democratic leaders failed to provide a single vote for Arizona’s budget reductions after years ratcheting up the spending,” said Former US Secretary of Transportation Mary Peters, “And they have stood silent on federal unfunded mandates and attempts to violate state’s rights.
They have done nothing to help Arizona’s economy and instead sit back and complain about the problem they caused.”
