In Case You Missed It: Congressman Trent Franks (AZ-02) appeared on a Fox Business Special Report with Neil Cavuto to respond to President Obama’s nationally-televised speech declaring an “end to combat operations in Iraq.” Franks pointed out that President Obama, while he was in the Senate, actively opposed the troop surge that allowed for success in Iraq. Franks noted that President Obama seems to be trying to take credit for policies that were enacted before his election, including the December 31, 2011 target date for withdrawing all American troops from Iraq – a date that was reached in the Status of Forces Agreement reached under the Bush Administration.
Franks also stated that President Obama has failed to demonstrate a resolve to address Iran’s ongoing pursuit of a nuclear weapons
capability, having allowed Iran to continue their nuclear research unabated. The possibility of a nuclear Iran (which borders Iraq) promises to destabilize the entire region, in addition to causing the “shadow of nuclear terrorism to fall upon the world.”
