With just weeks left in a summer that showed far less economic recovery than Democrats had hoped for, the party is bracing for the prospect of a GOP-controlled House of Representatives next year, while Republicans set their sights on as many as 80 seats they believe will be vulnerable in November.
"I've been thinking for months the House is lost," one top Democratic strategist told The Washington Examiner. "I don't even think it's going to be close."
At an event in New Hampshire, Biden said the administration is about one-third of the way to realizing President Obama's goal of weatherizing 600,000 homes.
"If we keep up the current weatherization pace, we'll lessen our dependence on foreign oil by 1.5 million barrels, the equivalent of going out today, waving a wand and taking 107,000 automobiles off the road permanently, saving consumers a lot of money," Biden said.
Republicans noted that last year, Obama and Biden promised the stimulus funding would weatherize at least 2 million homes.
If Trumka doesn’t want union leaders to be called thugs, he should not have spent so many years acting like one.
More important, though, is this meme about Obama making the tough choices. He has done no such thing.
Is it really that tough to spend other people’s money on the unionists who spent hundreds of millions of dollars to get you elected? To lavish cash on partisan PR firms and contractors whose workers who are supposed to be grateful and whose executives will cut checks to the Democratic Party? That’s the short version of the stimulus for you.
