TEA PARTY LEADERS ENDORSE SENATOR JOHN McCAIN FOR RE-ELECTION

PHOENIX, AZ – U.S. Senator John McCain’s re-election campaign today announced that two prominent Arizona Tea Party leaders, Jennifer Campbell and Russ Clark, have endorsed Senator McCain for re-election.

Campbell is a board member of the Yavapai Tea Party, which has thousands of members, and is one of the largest and most influential Tea Party organizations in the state. Clark is a co-founder of the Colorado River Tea Party, and is a conservative radio show host on KBLU in Yuma.

“Senator McCain led the fight in Congress against President Obama’s stimulus package, and led the fight on the floor of the Senate against Obamacare,” said Yavapai Tea Party board member Jennifer Campbell.

“Throughout his entire career, Senator McCain has never requested a pork barrel earmark, and has fought a long and often lonely battle against government overspending. This year, we’ll be sending a fresh slate of conservative representatives to Washington. They will need competent leadership and guidance. Senator McCain is dedicated to providing that leadership. Let’s get the senator back to Congress, so he can continue to fight for conservative values.”

“I know Congressman Hayworth to be a good man, but during his 12 years in Washington, he requested hundreds of millions of dollars in pork barrel earmarks, and voted for billions more,” continued Campbell. “Congressman Hayworth also voted for Medicare Part D, a massive expansion of an already enormous government entitlement program. With that vote alone, he burdened future generations of Americans with trillions of dollars in debt. After his constituents voted him out of office, Congressman Hayworth was paid to pitch ‘free government money’ in a late-night television infomercial. Those aren’t Tea Party values.”

“Senator McCain is a proven fiscal conservative who has demonstrated time and again his effectiveness in combating wasteful government spending,” said Colorado River Tea Party co-founder Russ Clark. “Farmers and ranchers are the heart of Yuma, and Senator McCain not only supports the agriculture community, he shares our ideals – the merits of hard work, the importance of living within your means, and love of God, family and country. Those are the Tea Party’s values, those are America’s values and those are John McCain’s values.”

“While I like and respect J.D. Hayworth, I have a serious problem with the fiscal indiscipline he showed as a member of Congress,” Clark continued. “Whether it was requesting earmarks or voting to expand government entitlements, Congressman Hayworth personified the big-spending attitude adopted by some Republicans that got conservatives thrown out of power in 2006, allowing President Obama to pass his far-left legislative agenda. We need a senator we can trust to fight the Washington big spenders. John McCain is that man.”

“I’m proud of the work Jennifer and Russ are doing, and I thank them for their support,” said Senator John McCain. “As I’ve been saying for over a year now, the patriotic and dedicated citizens that make up the Tea Party movement are a vital force for restoring and preserving America’s greatness. I look forward to partnering with Russ, Jennifer and the tens of thousands of Tea Party activists across Arizona as we work towards building a conservative majority in Washington.”
