'Wanted'-style poster created for former Minuteman Chris Simcox By Dan Nowicki Arizona Republic

Friday June 11, 2010

Fugitive Recovery Services of Arizona, bounty hunters tracking Chris Simcox so that a court-issued order of protection against him can be served, has created a "wanted"-style poster for the former Minuteman leader, U.S. Senate candidate and adviser to GOP Senate challenger J.D. Hayworth.

Stacy O'Donnell, Fugitive Recovery Services of Arizona co-owner, on Friday told Phoenix radio station KFYI-AM (550) that Simcox missed a midnight Thursday deadline and is trying to evade service of the order. She told KFYI there's no arrest warrant yet. The Simcox poster, which KFYI also posted on its website, says: "Simcox is known to be in hiding, possibly staying in hotels, or with known associate
Carmen Mercer in Tombstone AZ. Subject IS NOT a fugitive at this
time."

The bounty hunters said they were hired by Alena Simcox, Simcox's wife.

The Fugitive Recovery Services of Arizona website describes itself this way: "Fugitive Recovery Services of Arizona is licensed through the Arizona Department of Insurance. We are a professional team of fugitive recovery agents whose objective is to recover potential losses on surety bonds and assist in the private investigation and apprehension of fugitives for our clients."

Simcox is the founder of the border-watch group Minuteman Civil Defense Corps. In 2009, he launched a Republican primary challenge to Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., but dropped out when Hayworth, a former Arizona congressman, officially entered the GOP race on Feb. 15.

He then embraced Hayworth, literally and politically, and became a paid adviser to the Hayworth campaign.

The Associated Press reported Tuesday that Simcox's estranged wife secured the order of protection after alleging that Simcox threatened her and their family:

Chris Simcox's wife, who is seeking a divorce, alleges in court documents he brandished a gun and threatened to shoot his family on at least two occasions in late 2009 — four years after he became instrumental in founding the Minuteman movement, which brought thousands of anti-illegal immigration activists to patrol the U.S.-Mexico border and report suspected illegal migrants to the border patrol. . . . A judge in Phoenix granted an order of protection on April 16, ordering Simcox to surrender his firearms and stay at least 200 yards away from his family.

The Phoenix New Times first broke the story here.

McCain's re-election campaign has been highlighting the links between Simcox and Hayworth, who is McCain's main primary threat.

When asked about the Simcox controversy, Mark Sanders, Hayworth's campaign spokesman, told AZ/DC: "No comment on this. He no longer is with the campaign. Thanks for asking."

SATURDAY UPDATE

Fugitive Recovery Services of Arizona provided AZ/DC with a news release that clarifies the bounty hunters' role in the Simcox matter:

The OOP (Order of Protection) demands that Chris Simcox shall not contact Plantiff Alena Simcox or their children except through attorneys or the court, must stay away from their home and must surrender all firearms to the Scottsdale Police Department. Chris Simcox may still be in possession of a firearm, and should be considered Armed & Dangerous. Mr. Simcox is aware of the OOP and is currently evading any form of proper service, and is now considered in-hiding.

FRS of AZ has been retained by Alena Simcox for the purpose of tracking down and locating Chris Simcox and to report that information to local law enforcement so that the OOP can be served upon him without delay.

FRS of AZ is seeking information that would lead to Chris Simcox's whereabouts so that local law enforcement may properly serve the Order Of Protection. There are no current active Warrants on this subject, apprehension is not required. FRS of AZ asks all concerned citizens to contact us with any detailed information they may have on his exact location, or contact their local law enforcement agency with those details. All contact will remain strictly confidential. A cash reward of $500 is being offered for any information that leads to Chris Simcox being properly served.
