HORNE BLASTS OBAMA FOR "PALTRY" BORDER SECURITY BUDGET REQUEST

Republican Attorney General candidate Tom Horne says this week’s request from President Obama to Congress for more border security funds is so small, it is an insult.

"The security problems along our border with Mexico are extreme, they need to be addressed immediately, and the president is trying to
put a small band-aid on an open wound. His efforts here are paltry at
best, and frankly, insulting to the people who live along the border and whose lives and livelihoods are at risk every day," Horne said.

On Tuesday, the Obama administration sent a request to congress to fund 1,000 more border agents and deploy two additional unmanned drones to patrol the southwest border with Mexico. This comes on the heels of reports that Mexican drug cartels have infiltrated the United States and have set up observation points on American soil in an effort to ease the traffic of illegal drugs and border crossers.

Horne added, "This is a crisis that gets worse every day and the President is simply not taking it seriously. I support the Arizona Cattle Growers' Restore Our Border Security Plan that calls for an additional 3,000 border agents and for the deployment of military assets at Forward Operating Bases every 12 miles along the border with Mexico. I also support adding more border fencing. There are significant gaps that are exploited daily by illegal crossers and it is the job of the United States government to close those gaps immediately, protect our citizens and ensure our national security. This is the President's job and he's not doing it. I am asking our congressional delegation to demand more action from this administration and more funding for border security. Law enforcement needs support from the federal government, not meager half-measures that the President is asking for now."
