HORNE BLASTS OBAMA ADMINISTRATION FOR SIGNALING INTENT TO SUE ARIZONA OVER S.B. 1070

Republican Attorney General candidate Tom Horne says Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's remarks that the U.S. Department of Justice intends to sue the state of Arizona over S.B. 1070 show the federal government is shirking its responsibility to secure the border with Mexico. Secretary Clinton told an Ecuadorian television reporter today that the Justice Department "will be bringing a lawsuit" against S.B. 1070.

"I am not surprised that the Obama administration has shown breathtaking indifference to the crisis at the U.S. - Mexico
border,” Horne said. “The first job of the federal government is to
protect its citizens, and the Obama administration has been inadequate in addressing this crisis. In fact the administration has just confirmed that it is working to undermine Arizona's border security by intending to sue the state over S.B. 1070.”

He added, “S.B. 1070 is constitutional and should withstand this challenge. But it is unfortunate that state resources have to be used to defend the law because the U.S. government either will not or cannot do its job. It reminds me of the recent Horne vs. Flores case in which the federal government tried to micromanage Arizona's education system. I took that case to the U.S. Supreme Court and won, saving Arizona taxpayers $300 million.”

“Similarly, it is unfortunate that the President of the United States takes Arizona to court simply because Arizona is trying to enforce existing federal law. I call on the president to re-consider this wasteful and unnecessary decision to take the people of Arizona to court,” Horne concluded.
