NATIONAL RIFLE ASSOCIATION POLITICAL VICTORY FUND (NRA-PVF) ENDORSES SENATOR JOHN McCAIN FOR RE-ELECTION
PHOENIX, AZ -- U.S. Senator John McCain’s re-election campaign today announced that the National Rifle Association’s Political Victory Fund (NRA-PVF) has endorsed Senator McCain for re-election to the United States Senate.
“John McCain has steadfastly voted against every gun and ammunition ban in Congress,” said Chris W. Cox, Chairman of
NRA-PVF.
"This along with his commitment to preserving our hunting heritage has earned him the NRA-PVF’s endorsement. We ask all Arizona gun-owners, hunters and NRA members to vote for John McCain in the U.S. Senate Republican primary on August 24th.”
“The National Rifle Association has boldly protected Americans’ Constitutionally guaranteed Second Amendment right to keep
and bear arms for more than 125 years, and I am humbled and honored by their endorsement,” said Senator John McCain.
“For more than two decades, I've fought efforts to ban guns and ammunition, and stood in defense of our Second Amendment -- I look forward to continuing to work closely with the NRA in the battles ahead.”
In their own press release announcing the endorsement, NRA-PVF cited Senator McCain’s strong record of support for Second Amendment rights, including:
“Sen. McCain voted to end reckless lawsuits against gun
manufacturers and to prohibit gun confiscation from law-abiding Americans during states of emergency. He is leading the fight to restore self-defense rights in Washington, D.C. through his introduction of the Second Amendment Enforcement Act.
“McCain signed the pro-gun congressional amicus brief to the U.S. Supreme Court in support of the individual right to keep and bear arms in the historic Heller case. He also signed the congressional amicus brief stating that the Second Amendment applies to all Americans, no matter where they live, in the McDonald case currently before the Court.“Sen. McCain’s consistent opposition to the failed Clinton semi-auto ban, dating back to the original votes in 1993, has made him a friend to gun owners across the country.
He continues to be a strong voice in fighting ongoing efforts by the United Nations to dismantle the Second Amendment.”
NRA-PVF Chairman Chris Cox today wrote the following letter to Senator McCain informing him of their endorsement:
June 3, 2010
The Honorable John McCain
McCain for U.S. Senate
1702 E. Highland Avenue, #101
Phoenix, AZ 85016
Dear Senator McCain:
On behalf of our four million members, the National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund is proud to endorse your candidacy in the Republican primary election for U.S. Senate in Arizona.
Based on your pro-gun votes in the Senate and answers to our candidate questionnaire, you have earned the support of Arizona gun owners in this election.
Throughout your years of service, you have demonstrated a proven commitment to our Second Amendment rights, opposing every effort to ban guns -- including voting seven times against the discredited semi-auto ban.
You have consistently fought against waiting periods on gun purchases and against every effort to ban most of the hunting ammunition in common use today.
Your leadership in the fight to enact the “Protection of
Lawful Commerce in Arms Act” helped end the bogus lawsuits against gun
manufacturers.
Without this landmark legislation, those politically motivated lawsuits would still be threatening to bankrupt the entire firearms industry and seriously damage America’s ability to produce the arms needed by our military and law enforcement.
We appreciate your efforts to restore basic Second Amendment freedoms in our nation’s capital.
Your introduction of the Second Amendment Enforcement Act will force D.C. to respect the fundamental right to keep and bear arms. You have also supported gun owners’ efforts in the courts.
In 2008 you signed the pro-gun congressional amicus brief to the U.S. Supreme Court supporting our individual Right to Keep and Bear Arms in the Heller case.
And this year, you joined hundreds of your colleagues in signing the congressional amicus brief in the McDonald case supporting the position that the Second Amendment applies to state and local governments.
Gun owners particularly appreciate your courage in standing up to the anti-gun officials in the Obama Administration.
With increasing calls for the reinstatement of the semi-auto ban, your leadership and stature in the U.S. Senate will be more important than ever to protect our liberties. Additionally, your ongoing efforts to provide real border security rather than give into the call for more restrictions on the rights of law-abiding Americans is crucial to the protection of our Second Amendment freedoms.
Again, thank you for your support for Arizona’s gun owners and sportsmen. Good luck this year and we look forward to our continued relationship.
Sincerely, Chris W. Cox - Chairman
