JD HAYWORTH LIES ABOUT SEN. McCAIN’S RECORD. AGAIN.

CONGRESSMAN HAYWORTH LIES ABOUT SEN. McCAIN’S RECORD. AGAIN.

PHOENIX, AZ -- At a campaign event in Marana last night, Congressman Hayworth lied yet again to Arizonans about Sen. McCain’s record of fighting to repeal and replace ObamaCare. According to a local report from the
Tucson Citizen, Hayworth told the crowd:

“Look at what the senator does, not what he says in sound bites for the media. Why hasn’t he signed on as a co-sponsor to Senator Jim DeMint’s bill to repeal ObamaCare? John McCain went
to Washington to change it but Washington changed him.”

In fact, Sen. McCain is a co-sponsor of Senator Jim DeMint’s bill to repeal ObamaCare (S. 3152)
and has been since April 20, 2010.

The reality is that Sen. McCain led the fight to stop ObamaCare in the United States Senate, confronting President Obama directly at his White House Health Care Summit and offering the
first Republican Amendment to stop Medicare cuts in the bill.

We’re disappointed, but not surprised, that Congressman Hayworth is peddling falsehoods on the campaign trail in a desperate attempt to get votes. Over the last three months, Hayworth has developed quite a reputation for making misleading, deceptive, and even outright false statements. In addition to peddling bogus World War II history lessons, Congressman Hayworth has:
  • Earned two “Pants on Fire” ratings from the nonpartisan fact checkers at PolitiFact.com, one for lying about Sen. McCain’s position on immigration reform, the other for falsely attributing a made-up quote to a court ruling.

  • Repeatedly claimed the McCain-Kyl 10-point border security plan hasn’t been introduced as Senate legislation, when in fact it has.

  • Refused to pull a web ad claiming he was within five percentage points of Sen. McCain in the polls, even after a subsequent survey from the same pollster showed Sen. McCain leading by 12 points (as reported in The Arizona Republic).
In response to Congressman Hayworth’s latest campaign trail lie, McCain 2010 Communications Director Brian Rogers released the following statement:
“Congressman Hayworth is clearly desperate to change the subject from his support for billions in wasteful Washington spending, even if it means outright lying to Arizona voters. Unlike Congressman Hayworth, Senator McCain understands that to win Arizonans’
votes you have to respect them and tell the truth. Arizonans deserve better, and Congressman Hayworth ought to be ashamed of himself.” -- McCain 2010 Communications Director Brian Rogers
