HORNE CALLS ON THOMAS TO HEAR SUPREME COURT MESSAGE: THERE ARE BETTER USES FOR 'CLEAN ELECTIONS' FUNDS. BORDER SHOULD GET PRIORITY

In the wake of today's U.S. Supreme Court action that puts a hold on disbursements of Arizona's so-called "clean elections" matching funds, Republican Attorney General candidate Tom Horne says his opponent, Andrew Thomas, should return his clean elections dollars to the cash-strapped General Fund to help seal the border with Mexico.

"The U.S. Supreme Court's action today strengthens the notion that matching dollars for candidates who accept taxpayer dollars for
their campaigns is a bad idea," Horne said. "But even if the court had not intervened, the fact remains that there are far better uses for taxpayer funds. I call upon Andrew Thomas to return his publicly-funded clean elections money to the state General Fund where it could be used to help fund additional National Guard troops on the U.S. - Mexico border."

Horne added, "The border is not secure and we need more personnel on the ground immediately. If Andrew Thomas is as serious about this problem as he claims to be, he will start by putting the taxpayers' money where his mouth is."
