HORNE SAYS OBAMA CALL FOR NATIONAL GUARD TROOPS ON ARIZONA BORDER IS NOT ENOUGH

PHOENIX –Tom Horne stated:

Phoenix - Republican Attorney General candidate Tom Horne says today's announcement that 1,200 National Guard personnel will be authorized by the president to help secure the border with Mexico is an inadequate response to the border crisis.

"I have no doubt the Guard troops will perform admirably, but 1,200 are not enough, Horne said.

"I have endorsed the Arizona Cattle Growers' Association
"Restore Our Border Security Plan" which calls for specific measures to be taken. By contrast, the administration's plan does not fully address the border security crisis. I call on the president to adopt these or similar measures."

"The Cattle Growers' proposal, which was developed by people who actually live and work along the border, calls for operational units of the U.S. military to be deployed to the border; the establishment Forward Operating Bases at 12 mile intervals; authorization for use of force to interdict vehicles and aircraft illegally crossing the border; fund additional technologies such as FLIR mobile surveillance systems, MSS/Radar and other methods, and it requests substantial support for local law enforcement efforts and the enforcement of all existing immigration laws without exception. The administration’s plan does none of this and is therefore inadequate," Horne added.
